VALENTINO BUTUSSI RIBOLLA GIALLA BRUT SPARKLING WINE 2015

A greenish-tinged straw yellow, this Ribolla Gialla shows a youthful, heady, and crisp nose, with a well-balanced and distinctive palate character of ripe melon, pear, elegant white floral and tropical fruit notes.  The mousse is fresh and flirty, with a fragrant vein of citrus that carries through to the finish and concludes with a lightweight chalky mouthfeel.

Pairings: The most loved pairing among the Friulani is with Prosciutto di San Daniele wrapped around hand-made grassini. They also love it with seafood antipasti, vegetable crèmes, baked fish dishes, or with salty finger foods while sailing.

About Ribolla Gialla: High in acid and finicky in the vineyard, it has risen to fame as a unique and versatile Friulian white wine. The wines are often characterized by their firm acidity, peach, citrus and apple notes, and a faint floral aromatic profile. It is used mostly to produce dry white wines and occasionally sparkling wines. Gialla means yellow in Italian, and refers to the wine’s deep yellow color. Historical data shows evidence of Ribolla Gialla being grown and produced in Friuli since the 12th century.

About Valentino Butussi: A small family estate of 15 ha located in Corno di Rosazzo, within the prestigious Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC, this 100% organic winery is now run by the 4th generation of Butussi kin and focuses on pure expressions of the region’s most celebrated varietals.  Friulano, Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio Ramato and Ribolla Gialla are all deeply rooted in the calcareous-rich clay marl and sandstone of the area, and are translated into the bottle with purity, complexity and elegance. Their wines have a gravitas of intensity but with a lightness and playfulness that keeps the palate refreshed.
