CANTINA DEL NEBBIOLO BARBARESCO “MERUZZANO” DOCG 2012

A delicate ruby red with light garnet hues; on the nose, hints of ripe red fruit with aromatic overtones of rose, aromatic herbs and sweet baking spices.  On the palate, elements of Moreno cherries, red currant and new leather lead into a complex and full-bodied mid-palate with strong tannins and delicate red fruit notes on the long finish.  With age, elements of aged balsamic emerge.  Best when decanted 1-1.5 hours before enjoying or aged in a temperature controlled cellar for 7-10 years.

About Barbaresco: This aristocratic red was awarded its DOCG classification in 1980. Its vineyards are situated in the Langhe, on the right-hand side of the Tanaro river and extending from the area north-east of Alba to the communes of Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso, as well as San Rocco Seno d’Elvio (once part of the Barbaresco municipality but now part of Alba). The dominant variety grown is Nebbiolo, but Dolcetto and Barbera also play a part. The vines are generally grown on limestone-rich marl soils. similar to the Tortonium soils of the Barolo and La Morra areas in Barolo, at 650–1300ft (200–400m) above sea level on very steep, ‘pre-alpine’ hills. They are situated on south-facing slopes for best exposure.

About Cantina Del Nebbiolo:  Founded in 1959 by 23 passionate farmers in the hills of Alba in the heart of the Roero, the Cantina has expanded to include over 170 members, whose sustainable practices in Italy’s greatest growing region are showcased in these elegantly crafted wines that express the best of Piemonte.
